Three further attractions in the Battery Point area are 'Narryna' Folk Museum, in a beautiful Georgian building built 1833-36 by sea captain Andrew Haig; the Maritime Museum of Tasmania which displays historic vessels, shipwreck relics, whaling implements, paintings, photographs and models; and Anglesea Barracks, the oldest military establishment in Australia still in use.

Many people make the drive by car to Hobart’s surrounding cities and regions. Devonport is the home to the Spirit of Tasmania and the local airport, and is the closest points of entry to the Tasmanian Wilderness and Cradle Mountain National Park.
Devonport is on the northern side of Tasmania, closest to the Australian mainland. It is for this reason the busy car ferry, The Spirit of Tasmania docks here. With an 80 minute drive to the Tasmanian Wilderness and Cradle Mountain National Park, travellers can enjoy the quite villages and towns along the route, giving you plenty of time to contemplate the rich history of this island.
Between Hobart and Devonport, on the NE coast of Tasmania lise Launceston.
Tasmania’s second largest city Launceston, is serviced by the major Australian airlines. The planes pull up barely a wingspan from the car parks. It’s a skip across the tarmac to the terminal where you pick your bags straight off the luggage cart. The hire car will be faithfully waiting about 20 metres away.
Launceston is the gateway to some of the best experiences in the north-east but before you take to the uncluttered highways make for Relbia and you can, without encountering a traffic light, be exchanging salutations with vintners within 10 minutes of leaving the airport. ??
