How many muggings and car jackings took place in Grand Teton or Yellowstone?
In previous answers Many asked why rangers carry guns. That is to protect them from people because they are the police of the park. They have the obligation to ticket and arrest wrongdoers who might not want a speeding ticket or driving drunk or planting or growing drugs on federal land etc. It is not because of the dangers from wildlife. I can just imagine the shooting of a grizzly bear or Buffalo with a 22 handgun, if he/she wasn't mad before I bet it would be then.
Um actually they have to shoot bears allot. When people feed bears they get comfortable with human, that is a dangerous combination. Bears will come down to camp sites and rummage through trash and food. They have been know to break into cars. When Park Rangers get a call they will go tranquilze the bear and transport it away from the campers. However if they comeback the Rangers will be forces to kill it.
