oil pan mystery ( Now I have pictures )?
What is this, in oil pan?
metal bands (3) and plastic chunks (1-3in. long) found in 1998 ford explorer xlt 4.0L SOHC oil pan. Pieces not chewed up, all 3 metal bands are in good shape and fits inside plastic pieces at the ends. Pieces are curved and was held on by a short 1/4 in. pin. Truck runs good; no smoke or anything.

looks like it could be part of a chain tensioner for the timing chain,maybe some one else before you dropped it down in there during a repair
